Hotly tipped Leeds electro outfit The Chiara L's go down a storm at their first gig in Scotland

Leeds based Electro indie outfit The Chiara L’s are in impressive form as their UK wide tour hits Po Na Na. Fronted by strutting pop vixen Chiara Lucchini and deftly supported by an eclectic mix of synth and guitars, the band's sound is a punky, electro cross between Ladytron and the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s.

Galvanised by the December release of their latest single ‘Knives’ and playing to their first ever Scottish crowd, you can tell from the off that the band are eager to impress. The energetic, not to mention sexually provocative opener ‘You Do’ sets the tone for the whole set. Chiara and her band keep the tempo brisk from start to finish, and whilst Chiara herself is the main focus of the group, lead guitarist Jonny Lee Hart, with his Confederate style beard and unsullied, extrovert guitar play, provides just as much entertainment.

The show stealing ‘Knives’ already looks set to be their strongest track, and its inclusion right at the very end of the set ensures they sign off their first Edinburgh jaunt with a blitzkrieg, electro-pop master class.

But at just under half an hour The Chiara L’s set feels just a bit short: it gives the tightly knit crowd no more than a taste, one which is easy on the listener's palette but still leaves them feeling hungry. If their debut album is out before this time next year you wouldn’t bet against The Chiara L’s coming back up for a full tour of the country and some of its bigger venues.

They are indie, they are electro, they are sexy and they are smart – The Chiara L’s look like they could, given a bit of luck, go some distance.
