Despite the current economic climate affecting businesses across the country, Amy Williamson and Grant McNeil weren't going to be deterred from pursuing their dream – and so The Greenmantle opened on Thursday 2 April. It has been booming ever since.

Former Edinburgh University student Amy had trouble finding a graduate job, and with Grant hungry for a  career change after three years as a manager at the Prestonfield House Hotel, opening their own pub seemed a perfect opportunity for the pair.

The purchasing of the pub, on Nicholson St, was made easier and cheaper with lease prices being significantly lower due to the economic downturn.

Formerly an Irish pub, it has been restyled as a modern Scottish bar with contemporary decor contributing to a fresh and lively atmosphere.

The pub has retained some of its traditional touches such as exposed beams overhead and boasts authentic Scottish fare on the menu, to match. With pub quizzes, free wifi, the opportunity to reserve the back of the pub for meetings, parties and University Societies and a wide screen television showing major sporting events, it caters for everyone’s needs.
