In the most unlikely of locations, tucked away next to the old Odeon on Clerk Street, hides an unusual little gem. Inside Anteaques, you might be forgiven for believing that this delightful antique shop has not changed since Victorian times.

It is hard to believe that it has only been there a year. As soon as you step inside you are wheeled backwards, to a time of grace and civility. From the tea-sets to the tablecloths, everything is perfectly preserved. The selection of fine teas is unparalleled and the service is not only authentic, but also impeccable.

Teas are served in fine antique china. Many of the antique tea-sets are for sale, so if you are interested you can try the set before you buy.

The menu is plentiful: the selection of teas ranges from black teas such as Queens Breakfast, to scented teas, infusions and special teas. Try a fiery Gunpowder green tea or an Argentinean Mate. The Jasmine pearl tea is tantalizing while the organic Verbena, grown just outside the city, is intoxicatingly aromatic. The tea-lover will be delighted to learn that many of the teas are organic, and you can purchase them loose-leaf.

This cosy shop only seats ten, and sitting inside is so relaxing that it can be hard to drag yourself away. Should you find yourself drifting off in the wistful ambience you can find some energy in a tarte aux citron or chocolate truffle cake. Or perhaps a freshly baked scone with clotted cream and jam will tickle your fancy, and you can lavish spreading the jam with an antique silver knife.

This is certainly not a place to come for a high octane experience, but if you need a moment of escapism, it is refined and unique.
