COME [with the lights on]

Artistic collective's new exhibition at Sneaky Pete's offers a liberating interactive experience

My previous experiences of the Come Collective project made it unsurprising that their latest event, COME [with the lights on] fails to disappoint.

Greeted by a large stencil by Scott McClure that invites you to 'COME COME COME', the viewer is immediately immersed within the collective's artistic experiment, where the usual gallery system is overturned in favour of a raucous nightclub as an arena to view artwork. Music, art and dance are combined and the audience is indistinguishable, as part of the work as the more traditional two-dimensional pieces.

Eyes are continuously drawn to a broad screen which dominates the modest space of Sneaky Pete's. Projections produced by Steven Morrison - the co-founder of Dandy Riots and COME Collective - continuously play in the background, consisting of rapidly moving images which are vast and mesmerising and contribute to the magical, dreamlike ambience of the club.

COME often fill their events with interactive hidden gadgets and this time the audience play with the mood of the dance floor, changing the light settings through secretly placed buttons which encourage the engagement with the artworks further.

By 3am the crowd is buzzing convulsing to the growling electro mixes from DJs Static, Dandy Riots and Club Soda. The scene feels like a house party that is about to get shut down but when it does, we’ll COME COME COME again.
