After an extensive technical overhaul, the Pleasance Theatre welcomed its first audience on Saturday 13 February.
State of the art sound and lighting systems have been installed and remove the need for anyone staging a production at the Pleasance to hire sound and lighting equipment from elsewhere.
EUSA Vice-President Services, James Wallace told The Journal: “This is a real example of how students who use our bars and facilities directly contribute to projects that would not be possible.”
Costing £90,000 and paid for entirely by the Edinburgh University Students’ Association (EUSA), the redevelopment was a priority for the association and extra money made last year was used towards the project.
Wallace added: “Having this new infrastructure means that it is much cheaper and accessible to all, as students can use the theatre without feeling intimidated by rising technical costs.”
The reopening comes alongside the launch of a year-long programme of events at the theatre which will be advertised in new EUSALIVE brochures. Students and societies producing a show will feature in the pamphlet.
