Meadows Marathon countdown: Halfway there

Halfway there

Only three weeks to go! I hope you are all following your training regimes religiously and fundraising as much as you can. You should be running up to 12 miles on a Sunday if you are doing the half marathon. Our student launch night in Cab Vol boosted our runner numbers to over 500; however, this is still not good enough for the Meadows Marathon team - we want to get at least 1000 runners! Remember, the 5km fun run is only two laps, so please do not hesitate and register soon, as places are—pardon the pun—running out!

I have chosen two charities to showcase this week, as they desperately need runners. Both are worthwhile causes and I know the students of Edinburgh have the ability to bring their energy and enthusiasm together to raise the funds they need. Visit the website www.meadowsmarathon.org.uk for more details and to check out more of our affiliated charities.

Charity Showcase

Meningitis Research Foundation
Meningitis Research Foundation's vision is a world free from meningitis and septicaemia. The charity fights death and disability by funding vital scientific research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia, raising awareness of the diseases and offering support to sufferers. Every year in the UK there are over 3,000 cases of meningitis and septicaemia. These diseases can kill and maim in hours. Support for their fundraising efforts is always welcome as their work continues with urgency.
They have places available for individuals and teams and would love to see you run for them to help make their vision come true.

Four Square
This charity helps support the homeless and other disadvantaged members of our community.
They operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year running a homeless day centre and night shelter, an emergency hostel for homeless teenagers and a female-only accommodation project. They provide free furniture to impoverished individuals and families. They help young addicted parents, support new tenants, offer advice to prisoners and help people develop work skills. They work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds including drug addicts, alcoholics, offenders and the mentally ill.
