Celtic 1-2 Hibernian

Danny Galbraith grabbed all three points in the last minute for Hibernian against Celtic at Celtic Park.

The Hibs wonderkid finished off a smash and grab counter attack in the last minute of injury time to put a real dent into Celtic’s title hopes and mount more pressure on Tony Mowbray.

Celtic Park was in a buoyant mood as the game kicked off after their impressive 4-1 win over St Johnstone the previous weekend. Hibs were also in top form following a 5-1 victory over Hamilton at Easter Road.

However, it was Celtic who took an early lead. Paul Caddis’ corner was nodded home by a brilliant glancing header from Marc-Antoine Fortune which touched off the bar before crossing the line.

Celtic then pressed on for a second and McGeady came close with long ranged shots and Fortune again looked dangerous in the air. John Rankin and Liam Miller later began to control the midfield by winning key battles as Hibs started look more comfortable on the ball.

Then on 26 minutes, Derek Riordan’s driven corner kick was flicked into the net by the head of Anthony Stokes – who had beaten Celtic keeper Artur Boruc to the ball – to level things up.

Celtic came out with all guns blazing in the second half, but once again lacked cutting edge in the final third. Samaras was unable to latch on to a McGeady cross as he swung his leg into fresh air, and, moments later, Samaras guided a free header over the bar from point blank range. These chances were to be left rued by Mowbray’s men.

In the 92nd and final minute of play, Celtic Park was stunned. South Korean international Ki Seung Yeung was dispossessed on the edge of the Hibs box, but referee Ian Brines waved play on. From this, Hibs broke away through Stokes, who fed young Danny Galbraith, who fired home with his left foot and sent the travelling support into raptures.

As the final whistle sounded, many Celtic fans voiced their anger towards the referee, but it was Celtic’s missed opportunities once again that cost them a vital three points towards the title race. For John Hughes and Hibs, it was a fantastic result and puts them within touching distance of second spot.
