Simon Eltringham has been confirmed as president as Heriot Watt University’s Students’ Association for the second year running.

Mr Eltringham beat Daniel Magee by 834 votes to 506. He ran his campaign alongside the current senior vice-president Murray Hope and Secretary Michael Bottom, both of whom were also re-elected by substantial margins.

Mr Hope beat Louise McDonald by 324 votes and Mr Bottom, who stood unopposed, beat the other option of reopening nominations (RON) with 1099 votes.

Mr Eltringham told The Journal: “Having had a very successful year we are really pleased that students still have the confidence in us to get the job done and achieve real change with and for them.”

Katriona Hunter ran for the second Vice Presidential seat but was beaten by the RON option after winning just 16 votes.

Paul Charlton, Paul Murphy and Michael Ross were all voted on to the Ordinary Executive, while Murray Hope and Emma Little are the new NUS conference delegates.
