NSA regrets the delay in counting the recent election votes. The voting data are currently held by the University C&IT Services. No-one at NSA, including members of the Election Committee, currently, or at any stage during polling, or since, has had access to the votes, and no-one at NSA has had administrative rights over C&IT’s election count software since polls opened on March 8th.
The delay in the count has been because the Elections Committee has needed time to seek independent advice on some key issues that occurred during the election campaign. NSA is now in a position to confirm that the votes will be counted and that the count will be carried out by an independent body.
This will mean that no NSA elected officers or NSA staff will be involved in counting votes, at any stage, and the data transfer will take place directly between the University’s C&IT Services and the independent organisation responsible for carrying out the count.
The Elections Count has been organised for tomorrow morning (Saturday 27 March) in Merchiston Union and the election candidates have been invited to attend along with their agents. The declaration to the student body will follow.
