Edinburgh Archery BUCSess!

Russell Bannerman of Edinburgh University Archery Club reports on his club's great success at this year's BUCS Championship in Sheffield

This year saw the Edinburgh University Archery Club take a truckload of medals and trophies home once again. We took the BUCS indoors senior trophy for the eight consecutive year, the BUCS novice trophy, the SUS senior trophy, the SUS novice trophy, two bronze medals, two silver medals and a huge 11 gold medals.

After a long drive down to Sheffield, the team settled down for a good night's rest; having only arrived at 10pm everyone was exhausted. A good night's sleep and five taxis later, they turned up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with massive hopes for success.

The shoot was split into three different sessions to be run consecutively, allowing more than 400 archers from across the country to shoot. Edinburgh took the first session by storm but a breakdown in the running totals saw them left in the dark about their positions until the last session was over at 8pm.

A small hiccup with the scores and a nail biting wait took Edinburgh's novice team from a pleasing 3rd place straight up to the podium, trophy in hand. The seniors took their trophy without incident, to cap a great season for EUAC.

The medalists for Edinburgh were:

Bronze:
Erik Rowbotham 580 Senior Gents Recurve, Naomi Jones 561 Senior Ladies Recurve

Silver:

Kyshiea Steel 572 Senior Ladies Recurve, Migle Petruškeviit 522

Gold:
Jenny Jeppson 580 Senior Ladies Recurve, Naomi Jones 562 Senior Ladies Compound, Neil Russell 554 Novice Gents Compound, Siobhan Garner 526 Novice Ladies Recurve and Chris White 428 Senior Gents Longbow, Senior Team Gold 2293/2400, Erik Rowbotham, Jenny Jeppson, Kyshiea Steel, Naomi Jones AND Novice Team Gold 1563/1800 Siobhan Garner, Migle Petruškeviit, Fraser Keir

Huge congratulations to all the Edinburgh archers: now to take the outdoor season by the long rod, and show them we’ll win whatever the weather!
