Glaswegian metal-punksters Divorce are set to make Sneaky Pete’s as close and intense as ever tonight. The place is filled with heavy metal fans all sporting the tribal dress that you would expect; leather jackets, tuberous rubber spikes et al.
Following the lyrically-bereft instrumental performances from supports Run Off With Gypsies and Jackie Treehorn, Divorce take the stage. The audience’s appetite for sonic debauchery is already well whet, as proceedings kick-off with the band’s frontwoman Sinead Youth in amongst the audience, providing an eccentric yet undoubtedly genuine performance. Her unique voice manages to incite both mania and aggression from members of the audience, serving as the battle cry to their ravening horde.
The two female guitarists and bass player nicely compliment the brutal drumming that is provided by the sole male member of the band, whilst also laying down individually powerful riffs. Each instrument adds their own personality to the mix, whilst each member simultaneously proves to the crowd that their amps do indeed go to eleven.
It is obvious to a typical bystander that this is a group that can win over metal fans quickly, as roars and screams from the crowd after each song’s completion satisfy their efforts to impress. Youth's distinctive and original voice, coupled with the rest of the band's enthusiasm make this strong metal act worthy of a viewing if you are into the genre. If however, you find that you do not enjoy extremely loud and aggressive music that leaves your ears with a screech and your soul with a sense of dread then they’re probably best missed.
