"Scream if you want to go louder," appeared to be the appropriate sentiment as The Liquid Room proudly continue their Thursday night student ventures. Described as a student-friendly electronica night that brings to the floor the biggest names in house, Scream! certainly aims high. With names such as Cagedbaby, Huggy and Dean Newton hitting the floor, it would appear that this was an aim well hit.
Having remained closed for two years following fire damage, the pressure was on to remain hot. Regular customers of The Liquid Room have migrated further down the Cowgate, finding equally impressive student friendly electronica nights in Cabaret Voltaire and The Caves. Newcomers to Edinburgh were unaware of the venue's former glory, seeing only a hollow shell standing silently in the historic Victoria Street. Liquid Room, you are hollow no more.
The Thursday night Scream! venture combines impressive and progressive house DJs with energetic electronic beats at a reasonable price. The charm of the old Liquid Room remains, from the incredible sound system to the annexed smoking area, with a new level to welcome it into the new era. With Cagedbaby headlining, students were screaming indeed. Cabaret Voltaire and Caves have once again met their competition. Looking forward to more big names in the future, with the likes of Jakwob, Filthy Dukes and Carte Blanche in October alone, The Liquid Room are certainly giving us something to scream about.
