For those amongst us that are unfamiliar with traditional bingo lingo, the idea of a bingo themed club night could seem incredibly daunting. You may expect to be baffled as hosts whistle ‘legs eleven’ at a room full of confused bipeds, pity the one fat lady that is slated as the number eight is called, and anxiously search the room for hen parties as the inevitably cheesy ‘naughty forty’ is monotonously muttered down a microphone.
Luckily, the Electric Circus has a solution. Tuesday nights have been taken over by Circus Arcade; an evening of pop quiz and musical bingo. The only numbers you will hear are musical ones, as the game is left in the capable hands of their resident DJs.
The entire evening is a medley of quirky quizzing. Starting at eight (with one fat lady nowhere to be seen), the games are kicked off with a pop quiz. £1 in the kitty enters your team in to the game, with the winning team scooping the final pot. Spot prizes and over enthusiasm may be included. As the evening progresses, the pop theme is continued as guests are presented with a musical bingo sheet containing names of artists. The aim of the game is simple; as you hear a song on your sheet, cross it off and hope for a line or a house.
Circus Arcade is an innovative way to lighten up Edinburgh’s weekday nights. Leave your bingo markers at home, and bring along your pop quiz knowledge and competitive spirits. With cash prizes and £1.50 drinks, between you and me (number 3), Electric Circus is proving that your legs eleven are only for dancing, and bingo is back.
