Live-o!

Garage, grime and house is a hit

The Cowgate, famous for its night time haunts as much as its historical ones, is home to some of Edinburgh’s finest mid week club nights. The GRV, also known as The Store, is tucked away atop a slightly isolated staircase, and yet is the archetypal mid week club. With many events temptingly free entry, the club promotes some of the more interesting and offbeat club nights that Edinburgh has to offer. Though the genres may be familiar, the style is always fresh, and this week the launch of Live-o transformed Wednesday nights in to an evening of garage, grime and house.

Providing a somewhat edgier alternative to its subterranean neighbour Cabaret Voltaire’s ‘We are Electric‘, the launch featured Hanlo B2B Deckard and Dusthead of Digital Dust. With names just interesting enough to be confusing, the night had already achieved an element of exclusivity. With the style promoted as ‘grime, dubstep and strictly 2-step mix’, the night delivers what it promises. Pure garage and house infiltrate the decks for an hour. Boasting a successful evening playing Subcity’s Who Da Best? Dusthead’s set was eagerly anticipated, as clubbers were told of a strictly vinyl set’, giving garage a vintage feel on a Wednesday evening.
With the GRV promoting this as their weekly Wednesday event, expect Live-o to attract more garage lovers and Wednesday clubbers. The night is new and will hopefully not be neglected. Tucked away in the corner of the Cowgate, the GRV hosts some of the most individual club nights that the city has to offer. Well worth a climb of the winding stairs, for fresher beats and original evenings, this is the place to be.
