Local universities kick off the football season

Edinburgh University Firsts have played two games so far in their East of Scotland Premier Division campaign, losing the first but winning the second. They overcame Selkirk away 4-2 on 4 September but lost their first match 1-0 when they hosted Whitehill Welfare. Edinburgh will not have to wait long though for a chance to avenge that defeat; the two teams meet again on Saturday 24 September at Peffermill in the First Round of the Scottish Cup.

Following last year’s league win and impressive run to the final in the BUCS knockout cup, Edinburgh Firsts will compete again in the BUCS Scottish Conference 1A, along with their colleagues in Edinburgh Seconds and last year’s title-rivals Heriot-Watt Firsts. The latter have begun their East of Scotland First Division campaign solidly, following last season’s relegation, with two wins from three games.
