The installation of Princess Anne as chancellor of the University of Edinburgh last week came amid protests by students who claimed that the move was insensitive at a time of sweeping education cuts and soaring degree costs for non-Scottish-domiciled students.

Anti-cuts activists staged a demonstration  dubbed 'the Party Against Privilege'  near the ceremony at the university's Old College complex, while several students accused the university and police of 'political profiling' in refusing access to the ceremony to students who had previously been involved in protest groups.
