Glasgow University staff stuck for things to do in recently emptied evenings under the current work to contract were given a helping hand by the local University and College Union (UCU) branch last week.

In an email issued to members of UCU Glasgow a day after the action began, president Dave Anderson offered a few recommendations of how staff can make best use of freed-up time, including tuning in to Channel 4 series Shameless.

“Several colleagues have remarked at a surprising sense of liberation in leaving work ‘on-time’ and not spending an evening catching up with emails, lecture preparation or marking,” Mr Anderson said.

“For any colleagues looking to fill their now less busy evenings some highlights for Tuesday could be:

6.30pm Rihanna – The Load Tour – SECC
7.00pm The Archers – Jim is on a mission – BBC Radio4
7.30pm Spain v Scotland BBC1 Television
10.00pm Shameless – Channel 4

“However you plan to spend your evening, thank you for your continued support.”
