Despite the best efforts of Edinburgh City Council to prevent the march along Princes Street from going ahead, members of the far-right Scottish Defence League took to the streets of Edinburgh on 10 September.

But, the SDL marchers were heavily outnumbered by counter-demonstrators from Unite Against Fascism, while Lothian and Borders Police mounted a major operation to keep the two groups apart, for fear that a confrontation could lead to trouble.
