EUSA launches new class representative fund

EUSA plans to improve student experience and create a stronger dialogue between teaching staff and students

The Edinburgh University Students Association (EUSA) has announced the launch of a new class representatives project fund.

The aim of the fund is to enhance the academic community within subject-areas and schools of the University.

EUSA is looking to class reps to submit original and creative ideas for projects, and will offer a small amount of funding for the projects which they feel have the best potential to enhance the studying experience of students.

Mike Williamson, EUSA Vice President of Academic Affairs, believes that the project fund will benefit students: "I think this is a great opportunity for class reps to do something that will make a difference to students on the ground.

“EUSA does a lot of things in the central part of the University but it's difficult to affect what happens in each of the 22 schools, which is where a lot of the most important activity takes place. I'm looking forward to seeing what ideas the reps come up with!"

EUSA are welcoming projects of any type. Some ideas have included buddy schemes within schools, student-led help desks and department publications or newsletters.

The initiative will hope to increase the role students play in the running of the University and their degrees. It is hoped that greater student feedback, both through the channels of the University and the Students' Association will lead to a better degree structure and more opportunities for students to provide feedback to their course tutors and course organisers.

There is already an existing class rep project but it is hoped that the new fund will strengthen the link between course organisers and their students to improve the learning experience at the University.

The deadline for ideas is on 5 December and any ideas should be sent to class.reps@eusa.ed.ac.uk. More details for submissions can be found at http://www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/representation/classreps/news/projectfund/.
