The Heriot-Watt University Students Association (HWUSA) has launched a new strategic plan to outline how the Union should be run.

In a statement to The JournalHWUSA President Mike Ross said: “The strategic plan will look to set out the direction of all aspects of our Student Union and look at the positive impact we can continue to have well into the future.

“The strategic plan is an important aspect in continual development and improvement of our Union and will allow us to implement an excellent level of structured continuity over the years that follow”.

This suggests that HWUSA is moving forward under new President Mike Ross following the tumultuous year it suffered after the Union’s former president resigned to take up a work placement opportunity.

However, Mr Ross was quick to ensure that a sense of perspective was given to the initiative: “The strategic plan is currently in its draft stages.

“In pulling together this the first draft we have consulted with staff, executive committee, trustees and officers. At this stage we are now going to consult with students to ensure that the ideas we’ve pulled together for this draft are an accurate vision for the future of our Union”.

The strategic plan outlined by Mr Ross hopes to make great strides towards progress under the Students' Union and strengthen its status in the wider community and nationally.

The meeting on the Strategic Plan is to take place on Wednesday 30 November after being moved from 23 November due to the EUSA led RUK Fees March in Edinburgh.

All students at Heriot-Watt are eligible to attend and offer opinions and thoughts about the strategic plan to the HWUSA Sabbatical Officers and executives to ensure the process is as representative as possible.
