Monday 21 November saw a new initiative, the ‘1 thing’ campaign, launched at Edinburgh Napier University.
For one month, Edinburgh Napier students have been asked to put forward one thing they like about the University and one thing they dislike. It is hoped that this will enable the Napier Students Association (NSA) to understand what the university is doing well and what areas need to be addressed.
The initiative is open to numerous areas of concern. A statement on the NSA’s website reads: “This can be something about facilities, teaching standards, time-tabling, the union, accommodation, catering, fresher’s week, parking and transport to campus – anything and everything”.
This initiative is particularly relevant as universities across the Scottish capital are currently revising their budgets after funding cuts were initiated by central government. Another factor being taken into consideration is the likely scenario of a reduction in students, due to the rise in tuition fees implemented by the Westminster and Holyrood administrations.
Tom Zanelli, President of Napier Students’ Association, has promised to reply to every single person who gets involved with the initiative in order to make the university experience as good as it can possibly be for students, and to ensure all concerns raised by the initiative are addressed.
It is hoped a greater dialogue between the students and university staff can be achieved through the initiative.
Students can submit their ideas via drop boxes that are placed around the campus, or online. All Edinburgh Napier students are encouraged to take part in order to make the process as fulfilling and representative as possible across the entire student body.
A short video will be posted by Mr Zanelli in the near future outlining the initiative. More information on the initiative can be found at the NSA website.
