Movember supporters raised funds for prostate cancer and men’s health awareness in Scotland’s first Mo-Run at Glasgow Green the week before last.
Moustachioed Mo’ Brothers and Mo’ Sistas completed the 5km route in costume, with outfits including Fred Flintstone, Hulk Hogan and even an aeroplane.
Mo Running began in London two years ago and has expanded across the UK to the likes of Dublin, Cardiff, Milton Keynes, and even abroad to Melbourne and Auckland in Australia and New Zealand respectively.
Robin Miller, 29, a business student at Langside College who regularly fundraises for cancer charities, was eager to sign up.
He told The Journal: “It’s a charity which I firmly believe should get the promotion that’s required and the support.
“I’ve had enough family members and friends who’ve had cancer in their time and I like to provide support in any way I can.”
He added: “Mo Running could announce another Glasgow event tomorrow and I would be there without hesitation. One of the best 5km events I have taken part in.”
Janice Brown, 19, an ophthalmic dispensing student at Glasgow Caledonian University, turned out for the event with friends.
She said: “It was fun, I enjoyed it. A lot of our male friends are growing the moustache for Movember and we thought it was a really worthy cause.”
Also participating were Venla Riekkinen, 20, an Economics and French student at the University of Strathclyde and Laura Rantanen, 19, who studies on the Computer Games (Art and Animation) course at Caledonian.
Riekkinen said: “It was awesome to see how so many people had dressed up and put in an effort. We would definitely sign up again next year.”
Race director David Krangel heaped praise on city's impressive efforts and intimated the day could be the first of many to feature in the streets of Glasgow.
He added: "The Glaswegians did a great job in the outfits that they put on and the attitude and the friendliness so we’re really happy.
“I think we have to continue in Glasgow."
