Glasgow City Ladies head coach Eddie Wolecki Black picked up his second post-season award at the Scottish Women’s Football Awards dinner last week.
The former Montrose player and manager’s first award came at the Sports Council for Glasgow Annual Awards, though his side missed out on the Club of The Year (Performance) title, which went to the Speedway Premier League champions Glasgow Tigers, albeit City were highly commended by the judges.
Black enjoyed another incredible season as he led his side to a fifth successive Scottish Women’s Premier League title before regaining the Scottish Women’s Cup earlier this month with a 3-0 win over Edinburgh rivals Hibs at Toryglen Regional Football Centre.
The straight-talking coach of the year, who is quick to praise his colleagues behind the scenes for the achievements of Scotland’s most successful women’s football team, also led his team of stars, made up of several Scottish internationalists, to the last 16 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League where they were largely witnesses to a football masterclass from German champions and arguably the best domestic side in the world, Turbine Potsdam.
Black’s second accolade as Scottish Women’s Football Coach of the Year came last Friday at the Scottish Women’s Football Awards, as Glasgow City players Leanne Ross and Christie Murray missed out on Scottish Sun Players’ Player of the Year awards, won by international team-mate, and Hibs goalkeeper, Shannon Lynn.
The post-season awards might not end there as City are nominated for Scottish Team of the Year and Scottish Amateur Team of the Year at the highly prestigious Sunday Mail and sportscotland Scottish sports awards,
The event, which was scheduled to takes place on Wednesday December 1 at the Thistle Hotel, was to be hosted by Kelly Cates, daughter of Liverpool and Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish, and broadcast on STV at 9pm on Sunday 4 December.
