The Chosen Few is an exhibition that brings together some of the most recent and original Scottish artists handpicked by thirty professionals and patrons of the Open Eye Gallery. The work itself is varied; a combination of sculpture, painting, prints, and mixed media. What all the pieces appear to have in common is an undertone of originality.
The varied subject matter and styles make the exhibition particularly unique, a grand tour of some of Scotland’s most interesting recent artists. From Paul Furneaux’s sculptural creation of drifting clouds to the vast pastel landscapes of Matthew Draper capturing the ‘real’ atmosphere of Scotland.
The ideas are varied and originality is consistent. Willie Rodger’s oil works convey a message, a commentary on the human condition in only a few lines; whilst the vibrant colours of mixed media that makes up Leon Morrocco’s exotic scenes light up the walls of the gallery.
To list all the effects of the many artworks that comprise the exhibition would be futile, as the work (like all artwork) evokes a personal response. Thus whilst not all the work is of equal enjoyment, style preference in this case is to an extent irrelevant, as what all viewers must surely appreciate is the originality embedded in each piece.
