Edinburgh Men's 1sts 63-98 Leeds Met Carnegie Men's 1sts
Last Wednesday third-seeded Leeds Met Carnegie travelled to face fifth-ranked Edinburgh in the BUCS Basketball Premier League North. Leeds Met being a long established program in the league and 2010 BUCS champion, Edinburgh was never expected to win this game.
The home side kept it close throughout the first three quarters, only down seven at half time and ten at the beginning of the fourth. Unfortunately Leeds’ number seven H Wilkias proceeded to have 18 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter. This strong individual performance made the difference, as Edinburgh’s top scorers Mike Kirkpatrick (12 points) and Aaron Niemeyer (11 points) combined for less than Wilkias. Kirkpatrick was responsible for keeping it close initially with seven points in the first quarter. Niemeyer stepped up in the third with eight points including several nice attacking drives.
The teams were equally matched until Edinburgh ran out of gas in the fourth quarter; hence the final score of 98-63 for Leeds only accurately reflects the last ten out of a total 40 minutes of play.
