Dozens of protesters greeted prime minister David Cameron in Edinburgh yesterday, as the Conservative premier flew in for referendum talks with the SNP first minister Alex Salmond.

Anti-cuts demonstrators picketed a speech to business leaders at the Apex Hotel on the Grassmarket, in a day of protest which saw several people, including at least one student, arrested under public order legislation.
